Fall is here

Looking For Things to Do?

LODGE NEWS:
A very fun thing happened. The Allen family who bought the Lodge from Juanita Franks(who built the Lodge) found a promotional film from the 1930's. The Allen's had an office in New York City to promote tourism to the Lodge. They kindly sent the film to us. You can see it on YouTube -just type in Historical Bear Mountain Ranch and scroll abit. The film is 13 minutes long and very interesting. The pool was amazing.
It is definitely Autumn, the weather is perfect and hiking is great.

GALLERY NEWS:
We just got the first platter designed by Chris McDaniels for the Lodge's dinnerware.
It is an owl surrounded by the leave wreath. Very woodsy and fun.
Perfect for serving everything from cookies to pasta. Call or email to reserve your platter. They will be on the website under Blue Bear Gifts tab.

BARN NEWS:
Trompe-l'oeil ( literally means deceives the eye, it is a realistic optical illusion usually associated with painting) is not just for humans. The cows like or are deceived by it too.
The cattle guard had been cemented in years ago. John scrapped off the cement from the rails and panted the rails white. The cows do not cross it, but if we have a rain we need to repaint the trompe-l'oeil. They do cross it and I have to go to the neighbors and get them! They always look very guilty when they see me. They know they shouldn't have crossed the cattle guard. Naughty! A guest named it the trompe-l'oeil gate.
We loved the concept.
We are remodeling the barn and moving the chicken coop. The horses will have real stalls with a covered area for grooming and saddling. Alan and Tomas are doing the remodel. It will be fun to see the "touches" they will add to the stable. They are the ones who did the fantastic fence in the front circle.

NATURE NEWS:
I found the Evergreen Bug Worm the other day. I went to pick up what looked like a miniature basket and it moved. We emailed the photo to a bunch of folk. ..then I typed in caterpillars who make baskets. Voila, up popped Evergreen Bug Worm. We learned it is a female and she makes and lives in her basket. Her offspring will be moths. Please look up the Evergreen Bug Worm-nature is always filled with wonder. See photo below.
Mui Mui Cat has taken to using the rock in the front circle as his throne.
