BEAR MOUNTAIN LODGE - October 2022

October is always wonderful!

BARN NEWS:

It is true, we have a new puppy. Robin, a frequent guest and friend, at the Lodge was kind enough to bring her here from California. Her name is Charlsie Mae. She is named after John's favorite teacher, who taught him New Mexico history in the seventh grade. She is definitely taking us to school. She is a ball of energy. Zack wants to counsel you on being careful what one wishes for... he is one tired guy at the end of the day. It is good for all of us to have her brightening our day.

LODGE NEWS:

Last week, we learned we have a rare Butterfly- the Arizona Skipper. They were covering the front bushes. It is always fun to learn something new about something one takes for granted! Humbling.

NOVEMBER 3RD- A Great Time and Fundraiser

We are hosting an important fundraiser on November 3rd between 5-7pm.

Since 2005, Hermosa in the Gila has been a venue for a conservation education program called the "WILD SEMESTER" and a field program called "WILDERNESS".

Over 100 students and teaching assistants have benefited from these programs with many going onto having careers in conservation. Dr. Travis Perry's non-profit, Natural Curiosity, is attempting to purchase the property to continue the work. The property is surrounded by the Gila Forest. The current owners are going to sell it.

We are asking you to come on November 3, Thursday from 5-7pm to learn more about his work and the wonderful property. A suggested donation of $25. We will serve hearty appetizers and have a cash bar. It should be a great evening.

We are so thrilled to be a small part of this great endeavor.

Please go to https://www.natural-curiosity.org/.

There is a seven minute video that outlines the program.

CAFE NEWS:

We are filling up for Thanksgiving dinner. The menu is online.

Genna has special truffles planned for Thanksgiving bonus dessert. We hope they make you laugh and want to gobble them up.

We are taking Christmas Eve and Christmas Day reservations now.

GALLERY NEWS:

Carlene's wonderful show is downtown at Blue Dome Gallery. Please come and see and feel the forest of carved wood totems. On opening night, many guests kept saying, "It is like being in a magical forest". Definitely worth a visit. The show will be in the gallery till early December.

The Lodge is green and lush. Thanks to a week of rain, all of us were stunned. No one can remember a week in October like it.

But Spring will remember all this water and will be bountiful.

We hope you are enjoying Fall. It is my favorite time of the year....fires in the fireplace and cool hikes.
