BEAR MOUNTAIN LODGE - December 2022

Happy Holidays!

Luminarios will be going down the road and lighting the Lodge for Christmas Eve along with the Lodge's traditional dinner of posole. It is my favorite day of the year at the Lodge- the luminarios are always magical. We are almost finished decorating for Christmas. The Mui Mui cat loves the Christmas' trees especially the ornaments that are squirrels and deer. Ummmmm, wonder why?? He has been banished from the great room, to say the least. The menus for both Christmas Eve and Day are on the website. It's always a festive time of year.

AN UNHAPPY NOTE:
We are experiencing trouble with the landline. Century Link has not come to fix it, though we call daily. We are currently trying to switch to cell phone service with the same number but it may take a while. So if you do leave a message and we don't return it please email: info@bearmountainlodge.com

A BIG HAPPY NOTE:
Dr. Travis Perry has been successful in getting Hermosa, his wilderness lab. Check out the website -www.natural-curiosity.org A big thank you to everyone who donated to the project. It is and will continue to be a great asset for conservation.

CAFE NEWS:
We are having our first photo shoot for the cookbook this month. We are planning on wrapping it up in July. Yes, July it's a long complicated process. Everything from the photography, to testing the recipes, creating the nutritional data, to the stories about the lodge and it's fare. We are very excited about the project. Thank you to the Mimbres Press of WNMU for this opportunity. We are planning special dinners during the next six months to check the measurements for the recipes- the cookbook will have measurements in both cups (USA) and in grams (UK). Many of the recipes will have altitude notes with them...for the lower elevation dwellers. The dinners will permit us to do the calculations and to see how different courses and wines work together.

JANUARY 11th, Saturday - It's all about Comfort Foods.
JANUARY 22nd, Sunday-Chinese New Year Dinner
JANUARY 25th, Saturday-French Country Inspired Dinner.
All with a wine pairings or not. Menus will be online right after Christmas. We are going to limit the dinners to 30 guests. Reservations will be a must!

GALLERY NEWS:
We are happy to announce Miriam Hill's gallery, Sterling Fine Art, is moving into Blue Dome Gallery space at 307 N. Texas St. The Blue Dome will still have the upstairs space open and we will have artists' work downtown on a rotating basis. We are very excited to welcome Miriam and her artists. We feel this collaboration is going to be interesting for everyone.

BARN NEWS:
All is well with the horses and cows. The chickens are doing well. Charlsie Mae, the new poodle girl, is one sturdy girl. She is 7 months on December 11th and is as tall and heavier than Zack. In other words, he is in trouble. I notice he goes to sleep earlier. The cows enjoyed lots of grazing this year. But there always comes to a point, probably hundreds of years of human contact, a DNA issue, that they do want to come home. Fernando especially loves to hang around the west portal...looking good, looking domestic, and happy. In honor of Jan Sherman who recently passed. She loved words for all of her 100 years. I am going to have a favorite word each newsletter. The word of the month is conviviality. Conviviality-the quality of being friendly and lively. A perfect word for the holidays. An aside: Recently I came across conviviality used as a way of interior decorating...it makes me laugh for all those overstuffed sofas.

We hope your holidays are grand and wonderful. We hope to see you soon!
